This exclusive India Archive Banarasi Handwoven Kadiyal Jaldaar Pure Silk Saree in Candy Red is part of the INARA collection of Resplendent Banarasi Sarees.

This saree is hand woven with the Kadiyal technique, an Olive Green border beautifully contrasting with the rest of the Candy Red colour body. Crafted with precision, the resplendent drape of this soft silk Banarasi saree is bound to add a touch of opulence and grace to a grand occasion.
Kadiyal technique requires careful dyeing and then a precision weaving process using calculations to set the warp in different colours and the weft shuttle goes through multiple changes during weaving.

Type: Banarasi handwoven pure silk saree body with Olive green border and Pallav. In this beautiful rich Candy red there are Flower Buta (motif) in Jaldar Pattern. The Jaldar Pattern is achieved when the first motif is a little away from the head of the previous motif, creating a precise diagonal line with the pattern. The Pallav is Olive green and has a Jangala (scrolling) pattern created with a Phulwar (floral) motif.

Fabric and Composition: 100% Pure Silk. The ends may have hand-combed natural fringe. Includes Blouse piece.

  • Banarasi Sarees have been associated with the Nakshabandha families which were brought to India by Muhammad bin Tughlaq during his reign circa 1324-1352 AD. Later many weavers fled due to the fire in Gujarat to various parts of India. During the reign of Akbar, master craftsman Khwaja Abdyl Sauad Kashmiri came to Banaras where he designed heddles of looms (gathwas) and many karkhanas (workshops) came into being. Many Persian motifs were also introduced. Historical references like Ain-i-Akhbari are there for the Banaras weavers who were called Noor Baaf or shining cloth weavers. Brocade evolved as the prime weaving style of Banaras and became one of the centres for the export of its refined textiles in Gold and Silver. A wide variety of silks are used including Chinya, Mukta and Tandoori, these are slightly coarse silks used for heavy brocades. Katan has two strands twisted together and used for the warps. The thread that is used to create soft and smooth texture silk is Pat or Patbana.
