Detailed Information: Kashmir Kani (loom-woven) Pashmina shawls are laboriously woven in a technique unique to Kashmir on a simple horizontal loom, and the complete patterning on the shawl is done with a twill tapestry interlocking technique. Numerous eyeless wooden sticks (tojis/kanis/tajis) are used with different colour threads wound on them. The weft thread forms the pattern and the kani holding this thread moves over and under the warp threads. according to the colour. More the number of colours more complex the weaving process is due to the number of wooden sticks used. The good kani shawl can take upto an year to weave.
Minute variations in each handmade piece could be there, these are part of its originality and ingenuity.
