This exclusive India Archive Paithini Hand woven Pure Silk Saree in Mulberry Purple with Meenakari as part of the DHEA Regional Special collection. Paithinis are a favourite for Maharashtrians in India and has a great cultural significant. 

In a beautiful rich Mulberry Purple colour this Paithini saree has a Castleton Green pallav  with traditional More (Peacock) motifs along with Aakruti motif with Meenakari. The beautiful Mulberry Purple has zari and Meenakari More (peacock) and asharfi  buttis all over the field. The Castleton Green border is Khawale Kath or pharaspeti kath and is woven with extra-warp technique. 

These beautiful sarees get their name from the town Paithan historically Pratiṣṭhā , which is one of the oldest cities of the Deccan, is located 56 kilometres (35 mi) south of present-day Chatrapati Sambhajinagar on the banks of the Godavari River. Now they  are also woven in Yeola in Maharastran.

Motifs of Paithani Sarees: There has been lot of influences on the Painthini motifs. The motives kept evolving from the Shalivahan period to the Mughal period. 

The popular motifs of Paithini sarees are gokarnbal jhaad (tree of life), morbagdi (four parrots in a bangle) asavali (flower) motif, kuyari (mango), tota maina (parrot and nightingale), asharphi (gold coin), jipari ghari ( flowers with petals), ajanta lotus, anar bale ( (pomegranate creeper), aakruti bel ( walnut creeper).
