Detailed Information: The word Ikat originates from the Malay-Indonesian word Mengikat, which means to bind, knot, or wind around. This technique has now been woven innovatively in Pashmina by the skilled craftsman of Kashmir.
The design Motifs: Their composition uses diagonal or square grid in which geometrical or figurative designs are woven in double Ikat. The hauz, or core unit, is formed by combining these two parts. It is framed by a large red or black block and hauz is adorned with a mosaic-like pattern of motifs. The Ikat patterns forming squares at the corners are its distinguishing feature.
