More Details
  • Detailed Information: Kashmir Sozni (needle work) Jamawar Pashmina shawls are intricately hand embroidered by expert craftsman on plain Pashmina shawls with exhaustive patters using a wide variety of colours. Each shawl is a unique piece using large flower sprays (kirka butis), small flowers (rega butis) and jaldars. Word Sozni also has a connotation from the word Sozan (wise man in Kashmiri). The stitches are mainly stem and darning stitches viz. Parallel darning stitch, overlapping darning stitch, with use of other stitches like the satin, watachikan sozni (couching) herringbone, knot, buttonhole and chain. The embroiders work extensively on developing the Kashmir design vocabulary of patterns and motifs on each shawl. The expert skilled shawl embroiders then hand embroider each shawl for months.
