Some researchers cite that the Tilla Embroidery is said to have its origins back in the remote village of Zari in the North Khorasan Province, Iran. It is stated that the origins of the embroidery of Tilla Dozi in Kashmir are attributed to Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA), one of the great Sufi saints, also known as Shah-e-Hamdan (RA), born in Hamadan, Iran.
Metallic threads specially gold and silver are used to embroider Intricate designs creating a raised and textured effect by highly skilled craftsmen using specialized needle and intricate and ornate designs.
The embroiders work extensively on developing the Kashmir design vocabulary of patterns and motifs on each shawl. The expert skilled shawl embroiders then hand embroider each shawl for months.
